How to Find Long Tail Keywords for Your Content

Long tail keywords are group of words that can speak both to search engines and your target audience. These keywords are important for digital contents because they make it easier for the search engines to find your content. A lot of bloggers actually find it beneficial to do research for high quality long tail keywords before creating their content.

Sure, it may take time for your contents to get indexed in search engines, but you can make it faster by using long tail keywords. Good keywords are usually in the form of a question - something that users are really looking for. When your target audience see the exact keyword they typed on a search bar, the possibility of them clicking on that search result is greatly increased.

What Exactly are Long Tail Keywords?

Long tail keywords are made up of 3 or more words that are commonly searched. A regular keyword is “DSLR camera”, while a long tail keyword is “best DSLR camera for beginners”. Notice that the long tail keyword is more specific than the regular one.

Benefits of Using Long Tail Keywords

1. Lower Competition

The competition for long tail keywords are lesser because they are very specific. A fewer people will be searching for a long tail keyword compared to a regular one, but you will be assured that the ones who see your content are targeted - the ones who will really benefit from what you have to offer.

This also means that you will compete with fewer contents in terms of ranking. For example, if you want to rank for the keyword “DSLR camera”, there may be thousands of contents already covered by that keyword. However, trying to rank for “best DSLR camera for beginners” narrows down the competition.

2. Longer Keyword = More Intent to Buy

Research shows that people who use longer keywords to search for something specific are more interested in actually buying something.

With regular keywords, you may be able to show your content to tons of people, but only a percentage of that number is interested in what you have to offer.

5 Ways to Find Long Tail Keywords

1. Use Google Keyword Planner

Google Keyword Planner is a free tool that you can use to easily search for keywords that are commonly searched.

When using Google Keyword Planner, I like to click on the "Keyword Ideas" and sort the keywords to "Average Monthly Searches".

2. Use Google Search

Simply search for related keywords and press enter. Scroll down to the bottom of the search results and you will see related searches to your keyword. Search for different keywords to find the best match for your content. Sometimes, it is also good to use the keywords provided by Google Keyword Planner.

3. Use Google Search Auto-fill

Playing around with the search bar can also help you find the best long tail keywords to use. Just type in your keywords and you will notice that Google will give you suggestions. These suggestions are the most commonly searched keywords related to the one you typed in.

4. Soovle.com

Soovle is an alternative when you can't seem to find good keywords on Google. Not only will it show you long tail keywords coming from Google, you will also find KWs from other sites like Youtube, Bing and Amazon.
