These five photos here are just some of the most shared photos on the Internet in 2014.
1. This giant grasshopper

A giant grasshopper in Montana? This photo that dates back to 1937 really made a buzz on the Internet, as well as that giant rabbit.
Truth be told, grasshoppers of that size never existed.

2. Ugly Children Disposal?

Another old photo from the 1920’s made the rounds in the Internet claiming that parents had the “benefit” of throwing their ugly kids away in a garbage bin.
The fake photo on the left was made famous by the Twitter handler @History_Pics. We can safely assume that this is a just another funny photo taken by a photographer, and made even weirder by someone who wants to play around with Photoshop.

3. Marijuana Marlboro

Last year, Colorado and Washington legalized the use of marijuana. Not long after, social media was baffled with a news that Marlboro is producing a Marijuana in a cigarette pack.
Abril Uno, a website known to spread fake news (like Onion, if you’re familiar with it), started this noise on social media.

4. Fairy Pools, Scotland

The photo on the left started circulating on Social Media in 2014. Beautiful as it may seem, it’s actually an altered photo of a river located in New Zealand (as seen on the right).

5. Carving of Buddha

When you first see this photo, the first thought you might have is how amazing it is, and then you start to realize how someone could carve a monastery in that location. Still, others shared it on different social media platforms, and expressed how awesome it is.
This is the truth: The altered photo on the left was published by Reality Cues on their Tumblr Graffiti Lab. The original photo is actually the Wulingyuan Scenic Area in China.
