Top 5 Worst Product Design Failures

We see a lot of product design failures, but we don't often expect that big companies would go ahead and release them. New products easily make a buzz, especially if they are from big companies like Apple, or Google, but that buzz quickly fades when the companies do not meet the consumers' expectations. Below are a few of the products that made consumers ask "Why?". Apparently, that's one of the hardest questions nowadays.

5| Gmail Mail Composition “Innovation”

Gmail users were confused the first time they came across the new compose message feature and thought that Google has taken away some of Gmail’s functionality. Some hate it so much they feel that they could have switched if it’s not what they were supposed to use at work. Others feel that they are composing a professional message through online chat, while some say they are not comfortable writing an e-mail while looking at the bottom of the page.

4| Windows 8

Windows 8 has gained a lot of attention even before its launching, but it turns out, there are some who are disappointed of its shutdown process. Thanks to Google, though, for helping thousands of users shut down their OS for the first time.

The process is mostly disappointing for people who find it hard to accept changes. Other Windows users argue that these changes are just perfect and one just has to get used to it. However, people who tried it still went back to other Windows OS for failing their expectation with the product.

3| Clamshell Packaging

Thanks to shoplifters, everyone else has to suffer the consequences of their actions. Clamshell packaging was designed to make it harder for shoplifters to steal.

Thousands of Americans are sent to the ER each year for getting injuries related to the Clamshell Packaging.

2| Bathroom Stalls

Yep, people complain about those, too. Here are a few of what they hate:

  • First, the huge gap between the door and the wall. I mean, what’s the point of having a door when after closing it and uncomfortably sitting on the toilet, you have to stop what you are doing because you can see an eye looking through the gap.

  • Second, stalls that require you to pull the doors in so that you are squeezed inside and you have no choice but to let your legs rub against the toilet. (Ugh)

  • Third, tall people problem: that moment when you enter a bathroom stall and you can see the other person on the next stall because the walls are not high enough.

1| iTunes

Try Googling “why itunes is bad” and you will see a lot of people asking WHY it is bad, and people answering to the issue of why iTunes is the worst product ever. One thing that iTunes users would all agree to is that the product is really slow, and I mean slow. If that’s not awful enough, many are also complaining about its sync function, which is complicated. With these two features failing, people end up thinking their computer is slow, when in fact, it is just the app.

Others just shrug it off and say that the speed is acceptable. Still, it is an Apple product, so people keep using it.
