Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), is a mental condition that is commonly hard to diagnose due to its symptoms that are present in other mental illnesses. Early diagnosis comes out as Bipolar, or Depression.
BPD affects one's self-image. The sufferer often sees themselves in a negative way. Most of the time, they would also assume that other people think negatively about them. Because there is a stigma about mental illnesses, it is very confusing for some people to understand what's going on in the mind of someone who is mentally challenged. Ida Storm is just one of the few people who are affected with the negative stigma of mental illnesses. She is a Norwegian who began filming herself when she was 18. Her 8-year battle is revealed through her documentary, Ida's Diary, which details her daily struggles with life. The video below, entitled "Being Ida", shows a piece of her documentary.
It's a 19-minute video that is very detailed, one can easily understand anyone's struggles with mental illness. However, it is not enough to fully understand how it is actually like. This video is disturbing at some point, and yet, encouraging. Ida shows her ups and downs, the simple things that upset her, and the small things that make her happy. It also shows her mishaps, and how she coped with it. The ending gives us an idea of what she hopes for in the future, and tells us that one has to take a huge step to find happiness - although for some, that step may seem small.
