Stem Cell Now Used in Attempt to Reactivate The Dead's Brain

The institutional review board of the US has decided to allow a biotech company to ethically use stem cells to 20 brain dead patients. This research will start in 2017 in US and India. The process involves triggering the nervous system in hopes of reactivating the patient's brain. The company involved hopes that this study can prove whether they can bring the dead back to life, "at least partly".

This ground-breaking research may seem unrealistic for some. However, one of the participants is a well-known researcher and neurologist - Dr. Calixto Machado. Dr. Calixto had performed a lot of research about the death of the brain.

The 20 subjects are completely brain dead and are only connected to life support machines to prevent decomposition. These subjects will be tested with different combination of therapies. Some of the patients have their brain injected with stem cells, others will receive spinal cord infusion of certain chemicals, while others will have their nerves stimulated. These processes were proven to get patients out of coma.

These patients' brain activities will be monitored for months, and researchers will look for signs or brain reactivation. Researchers will take a close look at the subject's upper spinal cord, or the lower part of the brain that controls heartbeat and breathing.
“We hope to see results within the first two to three months.” -- Ira Pastor, the CEO of Bioquark Inc.

These researchers believe that the procedure done to revive a patient in coma can "resurrect" someone who is already brain dead. The neurons start to wither when a person is brain dead, and although stem cell has proven to be effective in helping the heart, eyes, pancreas, and brain tissue to regenerate after they wither away, resurrecting a brain dead patient would have to undergo a lot of meticulous process to be successful.
